Gorgeous and Eclectic Interior Design Trends to Use in 2021

We all want our homes to look stunning, don’t we? That’s why we pay attention to interior design trends! This year, though, is giving way to some of the most interesting and engaging designs yet.

Recent design trends have focused on one primary era or scheme. Mid-century modern furniture and accents have dominated magazine covers and home shows as decorators have worked with their clients to bring this trend into their spaces.

This modern look certainly has its appeal, giving the impression of both order and luxury. Because of this, it’s proven to be especially helpful in selling homes for top dollar! Check out how we stage and decorate homes for some of our clients using modern design trends.

And yet what should you do about the beautiful antique chest from your grandma or the dining room table you inherited from your mom? Get rid of them? Store them in the garage? These pieces of family history don’t seem to mesh very well with modern design and have been relegated to storage over the past decade.

Well, I think it’s time to pull them out again as design trends are beginning to move more toward a warm, eclectic look.

How to Pull off Eclectic Interior Design

The main principle in merging design styles is to focus on one unifying element— like warm wood tones or the high sheen of gold accents—and then look for pieces that suit that theme.

For instance, the theme in the photo below is varied yet cohesive because it all revolves around the bright-blue tufted button sofa.

See another great example below. This design uses a gold-gilded mirror with baroque detailing to complement a dark-green room filled with neutral furnishings with gold accent pieces. The unifying element is the color and sheen of the mirror.

Mix and match your wood antiques with modern furniture that complements the wood and its hue. The distressed wood softens the modern pieces, giving the room a more eclectic and calming feel.

You can also add oriental-style rugs, traditional paintings, and interesting lamps or tables against a backdrop of subtle sofas and industrial accents for a unique look.

As with all décor, the room and style should reflect the owner and their lifestyle. Start with a few pieces and look for ways to meld them into your living spaces.

Family pieces are precious, not just because they’re beautiful, but because they carry memories with them. There is no reason to reject the past simply to have a stylish home. New design trends are showing you can have both!

Thinking of selling your home? Maybe try a warm, eclectic design to help it sell for top dollar.
